The First and the Last(21) Adolf Galland

                                                                                 ( Methuen & Co. Ltd,    London )

This inspired us to try co-ordinated mass bombing.

We flew in close formation very low up the valley, approaching the enemy position from the rear.

At a sign, the bombs were simultaneously released and our load went down in a cluster.

We called this 'the little man's bomb-carpet'.

My mechanics also invented a sort of early prototype of the modern napalm bomb by attaching a petrol can filled with fuel and motor oil waste to a shrapnel-plus-incendiary bomb, which gave greater dispersal and ignition effects.

It was a very primitive but not ineffective device.

Step by step we gained experience and improved the bomb on our own initiative,.

Long reports were sent regularly to Berlin.
