     We brought relief and support to the Nationalist infantry and as a result were popular with them. 

　　私たちは、ナショナリスト【 Francisco Franco将軍が率いた右派・反乱軍 】の歩兵部隊に、救援と支援をもたらし、その結果として、彼らから人気を博した。

The task of the 'cadenas' or 'trabajadores', as they called us, was to provide air cover for infantry attacks, hold down movements behind the enemy lines, silence artillery, prevent reserves from being brought up and foil any possible counter-attack.      

’カデナス（鎖）’ あるいは ’トラバハドレス（働き手）’ は、彼らが私たちを呼んだ呼び方だったが、その任務は、（味方の）歩兵部隊の攻撃に対して、空から援護し、敵の前線の背後の動きを抑え、砲兵隊を沈黙させ、予備兵力が補給されることを防止し、考え得るあらゆる反撃を阻止することだった。

German fighter support became an essential requisite for any Nationalist operation. 

ドイツの戦闘機による援護は、ナショナリストのいかなる作戦にとっても、欠くことのできないものになった。

      The Reds had nothing equal to our ground-support aircraft, but they ceratinly learnt a lot from us as a result of their Spanish experiences.

　　 共和国側【ソ連の軍事顧問団なども参加】は、私たちの地上軍援護用の航空機に相当するものを持っていなかったが、彼らは、彼らのスペインの経験の結果として、私たちから多くを学んだことは確かだった。

Any soldier from the Second World War East Front will admit that the great Russian development in the technique of close fighter support for land operations was due to us. 

第二次世界大戦の東部戦線【ドイツとソヴィエト連邦の戦い】を経験したどの兵士も、認めるだろう  /  陸上の作戦に対する緊密な戦闘機の支援の技術における、ロシアの大きな進歩は、私たちのおかげだ、と。

The Red A.A. defence was harmless except for some concentrations, as, for example, at Brunete and Teruel. 

共和国側の対空防御は、或る程度の集中がおこなわれた場合を除いては、実害はなかった  /  たとえば、ブルネテ【共和国側による、マドリード防衛戦】とテルエル【テルエルを共和国側が一時的に占拠、後にナショナリスト派が奪還】におけるように。

Not until just before the end of the Civil War did they make a greater effort to counter our devastating ground-strafing and the close fighter support we gave to the Army with A.A. and fighters.  

内戦が終わる直前まで、彼ら（人民戦線政府側）は、我々による潰滅的な地上への空からの攻撃と、我々が陸軍に与えた、緊密な戦闘機による支援に対して、対空防御と戦闘機によって対抗するための、それ以上の努力は、おこなわなかった。
